What headset do you run? Changing to a lower stack (such as the 'El Cheapo' on Tartybikes) will give you a few mm, and only cost a tenner. Might be worth doing this in conjunction with extension of the steerer.

Take a look on Tartybikes, they give very descriptive explainations of what each fork is good for, what height they sit at etc. If they ship to the US then cool, if not pick which you like then have a look on Webcyclery/Factionbike/Jensons etc Most forks from Deng are pretty well respected.

You can pick up beasty BMW 7 series from around '96 for that money. Depends what you want. you will have about 6 cows in there plus half an acre of forest on the dash, but might not be too great for going sideways round roundabouts.

My Yellows seem to be rather shite at holding on stuff. They lock up well, but the hold seems to let them down.
