Second Frame Build- Seventh And Final Update For A While
aener replied to Rob Leech's topic in Bike Pictures
'Fraid I'm getting the first mod off this production line. I don't care what Josh says - I am. -
Same... Haha. I started out thinking one thing, but now I'm arguing the opposite
-
Agree very strongly with that. But... Surely at absolute birth we don't know that things will fall towards the ground if there's nothing supporting/suspending them. That's just something we learn very quickly, because it's so prominent in our surroundings. Would it be more appropriate to call behaviour instinctive, and knowledge not? If it is, then that blows what I was thinking when starting this thread out the water.

Second Frame Build- Seventh And Final Update For A While
aener replied to Rob Leech's topic in Bike Pictures
Yay! Another super-cool headtube Might have to get you to go to town on the comp whenever we "SSL" it -
Perhaps - but if animals are territorial, I wouldn't call possessiveness anything different. Also - maybe knowing a gun presents danger isn't instinctive, but shying away from a recognised danger HAS to be... right?
-
Yeah... I guess I didn't really think it through, just saw a possible thread-starter that didn't involve something been said a hundred times, and pounced on it. Although, for the sake of argument; I meant instinct as someone further up said... about being a series of lightning-fast decisions (didn't read who wrote it - sorry . Edit: Mr. Johns!). I agree with you on the "you have to be indoctrinated in to religion", but - and I suppose it's only disagreeing because we're using different definitions - I'd class something like trying to prevent someone stealing your laptop as instinctual. Yes - it could easily be broken down in to a whole host of decisions as to whether you act on it or not, but I'd class it as something different. Same as if you DID try to prevent it and he pulled a gun on you, you'd most likely "instinctualy" give it up, 'cause you decided your laptop isn't worth your life. I dunno. Shit thread, I guess, if the starter doesn't have a clue what he's on about
-
I hope not. That wasn't the intent at all.

Don't know about eJay, not used it in about 8 years. You can get a trial version of Acid that lasts for a month for free, and then keep re-installing it when the month runs out (again - you COULD a few years ago). Failing that - it's easy to get hold of dodgy copies... depends how naughty you're prepared to be.

I was talking with a friend the other day, and although I know the example's kinda shit, no others come to mind. I like to make music, and quite often have a rhythm in my head, but can't work out how to write it down in MIDI and get it sounding the same. I had the idea that a program could be written to take an input (beatboxing in to a mic), analyse the frequencies, and for each "kick" it adds one MIDI note, and for snares etc... A step further would be for the program to analyse the sound, and choose the sample in your library that most closely resembles the waveform). I know without a doubt that this is possible - even without having any idea on how to go about actually programming it (short of that it'd almost certainly be a Max/MSP project). (Edit: Forgot to mention I later found out there's already a program very similar to this. It's a VST called Drumagogue (unsure of spelling), and it replaces drum sounds in a clip with samples of your choosing. It doesn't create a MIDI file though. This is just for producers - I guess no-one else gives a rat's arse ) Specifically - I guess I'm asking if you can just... know if something's possible, or do you believe you can only know for sure it's possible when you've worked out how to do it? On a more general basis, do you go on instinct to take a belief, or do you have to have the cold, hard ([plus optional] nitty, gritty detailed) facts before you believe it? I think I'm a mix. Things that have a physical output, such as the example above, I'm very much the first. I quite often think "I KNOW that can be done" but not have a clue how to go about doing it. ...I guess that's just logic - knowing what's been done before and combining with other things. With things like religion/belief systems, I'm very much the latter. How about you?

If only he was English Edit: Not that I'm not impressed with the riding. I'm sure I couldn't do it.

If you want breaking in to the hell hole that is the digital audio workstation gently, go back and play in E-Jay for a bit. Then get Sony Acid. THEN try Fruity Loops. The previous two programs will give you somewhat of a better understanding of what's going on. Neither are very good - but they give an idea of what's what, and are very intuitive.

I usually end up ripping them putting the bike in the car - but if you manage not to do that... I've run a pair for longer than two months. Cut them off 'cause they were stuck and was changing brake.
-
Appearance-wise, the Inspired. I really hate the look of BMX bars when they're not on a BMX. Functionality-wise I can't say. Never been on a BMX24.
-
Clarks grips from Halfords. You get four tubes for a fiver. Cut each tube in half for a pair of grips. £1.25 a pair is pretty decent, and once they squish down a bit (takes about two rides) they're lush.

That's the most lovely writing style I've ever witnessed on this forum It's not for that, unfortunately - but I'll give that a go too, if you like.

Well... There's a few things to know. You'll hear about "square taper", and "ISIS" cranks. This refers to the system used to mount them on to the bottom bracket. If you have a square taper BB, obviously you need square taper cranks. ISIS is supposedly stronger interface, and quite often easier to get off, but I've never had a problem with square tapers. The tapers can die after a while however, and I think there's more choices with ISIS, so if you're starting from scratch I'd recommend ISIS. Next is the length. The longer the crank, the more leverage you get on the drivetrain. Whilst it won't change the amount of gear-inches you get, longer cranks will make a certain gearing feel easier to pedal than shorter ones. There's no right or wrong - it's all your personal preference. If you have an 18:12 gear ratio and 158mm long cranks and it feels too heavy, but 18:13 with 158mm cranks feels too light, you could try an 18:12 ratio with 165/170/175mm cranks. Over time you'll find out what you like. Finally, most trials-specific cranks can take a front freewheel. If it has threads on the driveside crank, it can take a freewheel. If it has anything to do with bolts, or "arms", it can't.

I need examples of what really savage brakes sound like. The harsher and higher pitched the better. Also - if it has less of a tone to it and more of just noise, that's perfect. A lot of comp riders have a brake that sort of grinds a bit and then sounds like a shotgun. If you have that, that's exactly what I'm needing. For example, the line starting at 1:07 is a good example of the sort of sound I'm looking for, but even better is John Webster's in the comp section at the end. 14:07, 14:14, and ESPECIALLY 14:16. Unfortunately - I need there to be no music behind it. A bit of background noise doesn't matter, but the less the better. If you could rip the audio from the video, that'd be lovely. If possible, 320kb/s mp3 or higher (WAV would be magic). If not, upload the video somewhere in it's highest quality and I'll rip it out. I know this has been a very specific request - but the things I'm asking for are the ideals. So basically - if you have a clip of a monstrous sounding brake with no music behind it, please upload it to somewhere I can download it, or extract the audio and upload that. Either Vimeo or rapidshare/alternative please - youtube really rapes sound quality. Sorry for the hyperspecification :$ Thanks!

Did he send you the wrong parts? He was quite active in telling me some of the bits I wanted weren't in stock in the colour I asked for, and gave me a list of what he had remaining. Seemed quite on the ball
-
Obviously, I already knew it existed, but as a test I tried searching. I wrote "biketrialseller" in the search bar (minus the inverted commas), and this was the second link. Second only to this one, so it would've been top of the list. They're fine. On a parcel containing two frames, handlebars and cranks - postage was ~£80. If you want to know exactly how much it'd cost, you'll have to email him. I got it within 7 business days of being posted. Order by emailing the address on the site.

No... We had to pry it apart once, and that was due to having too large a collar put on the axle of the hub to work as a bodge with previous frame. I was JUST beginning to think you'd got the hang of leaving me be, too

Will hydro disks be available separately? If they are to other disks as your vees are to other vees, I'll be quite interested. If yes, any clue on dates? Bike looks alright. Can't decide if I like the colours or not though.

:$ I guess I forgot his name. Haha. Ignore my posts in this thread... they've both been shit.

Rather nice, again Do you live in Bristol then? I never did know where you're from, and this is at least the second video of yours I've seen there. I don't know why, but on that flatbank, BOTH times over, I expected a fakie nose manual down after the pivot. Would look super-swish - but I suppose that's a whole new level of difficulty Would be nice to see a full video I say do it!
