I think people are really shooting themselves in the foot when they use strong terminology such as "proof". Both technically, and in common parlance, "proof" refers to an absolute, demonstrable and repeatable certainty. Hold a rock out, and drop it is proof that the force we know as gravity is there. Since they flirt with scientific and academic terms (which is a good thing, for the record), they should really be using them appropriately. The content of that video is a theory, not proof. A theory is not a weakened concept. The rules and calculations behind defining that force that moves the rock to the ground is a theory. To get technical: A theory is defined as "a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained". There are still quirks in gravity that don't add up with our understanding, but the rules we have are our current best estimate of how it works. If they were to start taking themselves seriously, they might be taken more seriously. As it stands, that video was a flight of fancy, for me. Yes, it is unlikely that there are certain similarities from all around the ancient world, but coincidences happen. There is of bird found in two places, South America and Middle East, so the question was why are they in two specific places so far apart... Until genetics came in and we found out they were entirely different species that just happen to look almost identical. That's a thing, and it's far less believable than people putting notches in walls for some reason we in our modern lives can't place. I would love to believe they are linked, but two statues looking similar is more likely a coincidence than a link, to me. I think if they spent all the time they spend on speculating, on doing first hand research (note: looking at Google Maps and photo's other people have taken is secondary at best), they might actually find something to make videos about. They're clearly not dumb, and have the research skills and passion for the subject. I just can't help but think they apply it in unhelpful ways. (Possibly due to financial motivation?) Edit: Not a rant - fingers just kind of ran away from me. Edit 2: Also the span of time... How is it appropriate to link behaviours of people separated not only by thousands of miles, but also 6,000 years? Look how much changed between the year 1,100 and 1,400, for example. People think of "this is how things were done in the medieval era", but things that were done at the start of that time period greatly differed to the end, and not just because of technological improvements. Bags have existed for a long time

Old frame new parts combo in shock stunner! Always looks great, but not always this great.

Tore apart a moulding old shipping crate to make some bookshelves. Reclaimed wood floats my boat. Forgot to take a picture pre-destruction but it was essentially green and furry. Had to chuck a few planks as done-for, but stripped the remainder back and found total gold Bear in mind this was in garage lighting, with a relatively poor phone camera, and no finish on the wood. Can't wait to see how much it pops with some oil!

f**king carnage. Wowza. I can't push past the image of a two-foot tall kid on a neon green Crossbow.

Which old parts do the dinosaurs on here think of as 'new'?

I do that too, despite only having started riding in 2006! -
Compared with some of you guys I'm still a n00b, but even in my time riding I just watched some videos and caught myself still thinking of the Koxx Sky series as "their new ones". This isn't for bragging rights about "I remember when they invented canti's" etc. as is wont to happen

We know that. It's just a fundamental difference in mindset. Some people have the innate self-confidence to be comfortable within themselves and know other people are wrong so they can just carry on with it (which sounds like you), and others lack it so even though they know it, they can't feel self-justified (which is us). Both have their benefits and drawbacks. The matter is somewhat complicated by just being out riding we're already doing something we shouldn't be (in legal terms).

I've been riding 14 years and still have the same issue. I tend to just analyse when people are at certain places and plan which spots I go to based on when it is I'm riding. I don't have kids so it's easier for me in that respect (by 'household', I'm assuming you do - apologies if not), but I tend to go riding in the early mornings these days. My partner is a nurse, and the busses suck on Sundays, so I'll typically take her to work at about 07:00 and go straight to the first spot from dropping her off. Even the city centres are practically ghost towns then. If it's something you struggle with, like quite a few trials riders it seems, I would advise picking your battles. It's enough of a headgame already without battling your nature. Just ride other spots, and go to those ones when you are comfortable with it. I personally find the issue mostly goes away if I'm riding with other riders. Something about being with other people doing the same has an internal validation and makes it seem more of 'a thing' than a thirty-year-old dicking around and falling off a kids' bike. You may or may not find the same. People are a mixed bag. Some are really nice about it, others just walk past grumbling and laugh when you fall. I find it best to avoid them, unless I'm riding with company. If you live in/around a city, I'd definitely recommend exploring the suburbs rather than the city centre whilst you're struggling with self confidence. Usually a bunch of hidden gems, so long as you keep yourself open to riding a bit of everything!

He's 38 and still doing that kind of riding, and that's all that gets focused on? I'll be lucky if I can walk when I'm 38, and I definitely didn't put myself through what he has for the last 20-odd years.

I mean... It's not good, but can you guys do anything other than talk about how bad things are? This is part of what made me leave Facebook. I'm sad that it's here too, now. It used to be in balance, but most things seem to be complaining, or taking the piss out of someone, or just generally being unpleasant. Why is it "cool" to shit on everything? This is particularly true of very specific individuals on here. (And yes, there are also exceptions. Don't assume I hate you all. It's just the trend of posts recently.) Remember back when Swindlehurst and Co. each made a new video every month and it was always in black and white with Noisia or metal? You always complained about that too and they replied "Don't like, don't watch." I'd like to take a moment to channel my inner CLS-wannabe and reiterate that point to you now. Or if you Don't Like and Do Watch, at least Don't Post. I'd wager this forum would be equally quiet by now because of this even if social media sites hadn't come along. He's better than me on an MTB, and I'd wager the same goes for most trials riders. Probably not the ones in here as 90% of the people that come into the Chat section moved from trials to MTB or nothing a long time ago, but still. Also - of course he's "such a trials rider". Why would you expect anything else? (Side note, it's interesting that that also goes for unicycles. I went to the uni event at Barrow Farm a couple of years ago and when on a borrowed uni, they all remarked on how obvious it was that I was a bike rider and not a unicyclist. It's all about the knees apparently. They don't use them! Haha.)

Just to add some context: Tom's a freak I tried to learn them for about three years and only ever landed two. But maybe having learned them on a bike where they are easier is a big help. He learned on BMX, so maybe they'd be easier for you than me because you can already do them. After I stopped trying I rode with a BMXer for a while, and I COULD barspin his BMX, but still not a mod. My head angle was less steep back then though. Not sure if that's a factor.

No - that's a 12mm through-axle version. With technical parts like this I'd always recommend dropping the couple of quid extra and getting it from a reputable source: https://www.tartybikes.co.uk/axles/hope_pro_2_pro_4_trials_axle/c595p10778.html?pos=2436&search_params=YTo3OntzOjEyOiJjYXRlZ29yeV9pZHMiO2E6MTp7aTowO3M6MzoiNTk1Ijt9czoxNjoiY2F0ZWdvcnlfcmVjdXJzZSI7YjoxO3M6ODoia2V5d29yZHMiO3M6MDoiIjtzOjk6ImJyYW5kX2lkcyI7TjtzOjQ6Im1vZGUiO3M6MzoiYWxsIjtzOjQ6InNvcnQiO3M6OToicHJpY2VfYXNjIjtzOjEwOiJjb3VudHJ5X2lkIjtzOjE6IjEiO30%3D Lots of options there. You'll want the 10mm Pro 2, unless your hub has "Evo" written on it, then choose that one If it's a stem, or tyres, or something simple then ebaying is fine, but I've had some bad experiences with people making mistakes or just flat out lying with selling little parts like this. Maybe I've just been unlucky/stupid over the years though. Haha.

Oh LAWD. Is that a geo people want?! I know I'm not the target but cripes.

Did you finally find someone to film that crashed more than me? Bit Ali-light? Or is he stashing for personal use? Totally in love with John's front-wheel shenanigans. That mid-g-turn-step-up (for want of a better name) on the double ledge rocked my world. Also the pivot and fakie down the skinny. Much fun!

I'm based in Leeds. Fancy some rides when this rain makes itself scarce? Is York much fun? Only been the once with Danny Garland quite a few years ago and it seemed... passable Willing to believe I just didn't see the good bits though! I can imagine the freewheel woes. I'll see if I've got one in the garage. It'd not be amazing, but likely better than the Claws that is probably on it! Or did these get Tensile 30s maybe? Either way - I might have an Echo or something I could bring along to a ride.
-
Kinda one-upped me there, didn't you! In every aspect. I don't "get" hardtails, but damn it looks nice enough to make me want it anyway!
-
Today, I purchased my first and last ever rainbow-finish product Way better than all that Stan rubbish.

The general consensus is: don't. There's too much torque in trials. I've not run one, despite desperately wanting the silent hub, because of a couple of people that have had them. Both reported they occasionally slipped through, and even when they didn't they could feel a little spongey.
-
Wow. I didn't realised they'd moved into that market. Being "in touch" isn't my forte these days.
-
Profiles are 110mm. Your Pashley will be 135mm. Profiles were only ever a "thing" in trials because people wanted a 116mm (with cams) freehub. They're pretty much the same price as a Hope and not as good. Get a Hope

The Bikes you have the biggest feelings for- but aren’t yours.

Thank f**k Don't get me wrong - also a fanboy here, but DAMN they rode awful.
