I'm not sure I agree. He's obviously really excellent at it, but he doesn't feel like TGS to me. He's too well rounded. Not comp, not TGS - just an all-round weapon. I'd put him and Porter in their own little group. TGS riders have "something". It's not just the music of choice, but if you look at the big names... CLS, Tunnicliffe and Damon - they all have a particular feel. Partially style, partially attitude, I don't really know, but I personally feel that whilst TRA is very, very good at taps, gaps and sidehops, he's not a TGS rider. (Feel free to replace present tense with past if appropriate.)

There's a few guys around Darlington. I head up that way every so often from Leeds, but not at the moment obviously! I'm not on social media but have a look for Chester Corney and Brad Johnston. Brad was keen as a bean just before lockdown. I don't think they come on here. I'm sure there's more around that area too, but they're the only two I know for sure still actively riding. Prattley comes and goes and Baxter's moved up Newcastle-way.

Could you fashion some sort of collar to go around the BB axle or existing spacer? Just to stop it getting wedged right down the gap. Is your chainline bad? Does it come off in transport because you've left it in the lowest gear, so it's more inclined to pop off that side?

That was ace I really love multiple barspins that just get thrown once and caught at the end. The flurry of hands that most riders do doesn't look that great, but what I'm going to call "Nyquest Style" because he's the main guy I know of that does it just looks rad. Like... It seems like it's all gone wrong, but turns out to actually be completely under control. I really like the relatively normal bike aspect too. Been thinking about something for fun that could also be transport as a second bike for a long while now, but not done it. One step closer to wanting it now

Newbie - Onza T-Pro without rear brake
aener replied to Suzukibyker's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
It's most likely that the seller wanted to sell the bike, but their own brake had failed so they took the one off the T-Pro to use on their own bike, and are selling what's left. There are various options, but by far the most common one suitable for that bike would be a Magura HS33. There are models referred to as the '04, '05, 2011 and 2015. All of them will work fine, though most people didn't get on with the 2011s, so opt out of those if possible If you could show pictures, we can help better, because at the minute we don't know if you need just the brake, or also mounts etc. -
Many hearts. Super jealous of your Duracells. Front-to-front on the bench was a particular favourite

My partner's an ICU nurse, so we naturally get a pretty distorted-to-the-intense exposure to how serious it is, and thus take the rules a bit more seriously than most. Combining that with me already being a wimp, I haven't even gone into town. Gagging for it! Neighbours were having f**king BBQ parties in full restriction times, which did not sit well with her, as you might imagine.

On the topic of the update... Do you guys interpret this as riding now being allowed? I specifically mean street. I've been riding here and there in car parks etc. but desperate for some actual spots. I've not gone into town because I got too anxious about being confronted. But now it's a bit calmer, riding in town is still just exercise, and I'll still be on my own because that part was mentioned, but people don't really like riding at the best of times. I'm looking for diplomatic answers please - not "lockdown is BS" and not "you can't ride at all". I'm asking publicly so that an external person hopefully telling me what I already think will push my anxiety down a bit. Edit: And what about travel for riding if still on my own? I was getting bored of Leeds and Bradford already!

LETS GO FOR A RIDE... Aaron Browne + John Shrewsbury
aener replied to John Shrewsbury's topic in Videos
That was great I was debating going riding today. Now I'm convinced! -
As above - still could do without the "surprised people", but this one soars above his others given that it's 90% riding. So good on a bike. I wish he'd just make riding videos. He's clearly done pretty well out of it all, financially Pretty sure this should be in the Videos sub, however!

If 1/8" is what you need, KMC Z510 HX. No question. You DEFINITELY want the HX though. Don't go getting the regular Z510 just to save £3 - they're no good for trials. "HX" denotes heat-treatment, and makes them ~5x better from my personal experience. The Z510 HX and the Z610 HX use the same plates. The only difference is the length of the pins to make them 1/8" or 3/32" respectively. Never used better.

And report back with the answer. I want to know!

No idea, but now infinitely more interested in knowing than the work I'm supposed to be doing.

I'm not very carsy. I'll have a go at fixing some things if they break, but not enthusiastically. I am interested in the mechanics etc. in passing, however. I'm also not a gamer. I like 2D platformers, but not really fussed outside of them. I am interested in the tech and culture in passing, however. I'm not sure how much overlap this forum has in car/tech enthusiasts, but I just saw this and thought it might interest certain members if they hadn't already seen it, once it's had a couple of generations to mature a bit. Home driving simulators just got a new dimension, if it doesn't suck!

Excluding money begetting money and money being what other politicians want too, he understands that there are more people afraid of the unknown than there are willing to check their own way of thinking/life, and is happy enough to exploit that for personal gain. So if he just said things sympathetic to or that rationalises their worries, he might get a vote. Then when he got in, he could take off the veil and show the world what an actual lunatic looks like. I haven't seen The Joker film, but from what I've heard it's a film showcasing what happened when a severely mentally troubled person is put under the perfect conditions to wreak havoc. I feel like we're one tantrum away from seeing that pan out for real. Or we already are, but I meant the explosives bit.

Maybe the front end of modern bikes is so light that they want it to feel a bit heavier without actually being heavier to balance out the rear for a more even perceived weight distribution whilst keeping overall weight as low as possible?
-
Ah. I see. That's fair enough - I can't speak on the arm pump issue but I could be persuaded to believe it might have an effect for some people. If it's just something you prefer the look of then go right ahead, but I wouldn't put too much effort into it if it's proving difficult and has no real benefit. Deathgrip refers to fully gripping the bar - not touching the brake lever at all. And yes, if I wasn't using a brake, I would grip the bar with a full fist. A gap to rear: Three fingers and thumb on the bar, one finger on rear brake. Four fingers and thumb on bar - no fingers on front brake. All those issues went away with riding brakeless, but I sometimes have the ridiculous and endlessly-amusing-for-other-people issue that sometimes if I ride someone else's bike with brakes, I use them to set up and then forget to let go of them on a sidehop or something, resulting on going over the bars for absolutely no visible reason
-
Why is it a "bad habit" that needs breaking? It's weird to hear people are this way, I was always the opposite. Always rode deathgrip unless I actually needed either of the brakes. Not going to front? Only cover the rear brake. Manual line? Cover neither. Covering brakes I wasn't using made me feel as you feel when not covering them - lack of power. This caused me some issues with hooks. I had to do the first part full deathgrip or else I didn't clear the front wheel, then after hitting it I would change grips whilst swapping up to rear to grab a fistful of levers. Made it work, but I knew it was harder for me than it should've been. Not an issue any more, of course

Another vote for Ikea's Markus. I bought one almost five years ago and I'm just now starting to think about trying to put some new padding in. Really comfy and the mesh back is great in summer. (Don't notice it as being "cold" in winter but definitely removes the stickiness in summer.) The lumbar support is good, and the arms are really stable for saying they're just two bolts in each. Regularly lift my full bodyweight off the seat on them in a "dip" type position to use some muscle a bit whilst working. Can tilt all the way back (backrest to about 50°, but the seat and arms tilt independently of the back so it feels like a lot more) and still feel totally stable. To clarify: I go through phases, but initially thought to get "a good chair" because I was starting an MSc, so I was putting 12-18 hours of ass into it for that full year most days. I am quite a heavy computer user outside of that year, and I'm currently working from home, and also do lots of desk based projects. Still comfy. I didn't realise I was so passionate about chairs. Thank you for revealing that to me. Edit: Downside is that the arms are a bit too close to each other/forward supports are in the way to cross your legs on the seat. There is a nice little gap between the seat and the back for your toes to sink into when sitting on your ankles though.

I like the orange too. It's so boring when the only colour bikes you see are black/red, black/silver, or all black. Each of those is great, but EVERYONE on the same is dull. I'd never realised how close to Coust V2 colours those frames were!

That was so cool. I have specific memories of some of those when you published them, but it was so long ago and I was so new to trials at that point that I hadn't registered that those clips and present day you were the same person The hop-manual on yellow Echo I had somehow attributed specifically to Dave Marshall. Don't know how or why that happened - a perk of e-anonymity I guess! Also... Just a note on that almost-tap from 2005... What the f**k?! Edit: Just searched for some Dave Marshall videos and there's a bunch at that same spot, so I'll forgive myself
-
Just ridiculous. I'm kind of enjoying being so out of touch with the current state of trials because it means I get to experience it almost as a non-rider would.

Trials: The Golden Age. Only wish Rowan Johns was in there.
