  1. If you can afford it then the best hub would be a Chris King but that's a bit unrealistic for most of us... Hope hubs are good, the XC is widely used, tried and tested etc and is disc compatible, and not as expensive as a King or a Pro 2. For rims, Mavic EX721 is excellent.
  2. Middleburn Pro Trials cranks are excellent. Most people will recommend them to you. They won't let you down.

All this gets me down a bit, it's almost like politics! I'll happily watch videos of any of these styles and in the end I'll just go out and ride and do whatever I can that I enjoy.
  4. Need a bit more info on what sort of thing you want it for... Seat or no seat? (get a seat!) Short or long? (short!) Budget? Then you might get some more helpful answers
  5. I was waiting for that... Don't think anybody has mentioned yet that you don't need a front disc if you don't want one. Magura HS33 (i.e. hydraulic rim brake) or good quality V-brake will also do the trick. It's probably easiest just to get whatever type your frame/forks are compatible with unless you have a preference.
  6. That was most pleasurable. Impressive jumpy gappy stuff AND some really stylish moves. Don't often see both in the same video

    New Keita Vid

I liked that better. (maybe just because he was riding a stock ) Nah good riding, smooth style. Bit on the long side though, I still get a bit bogged down in all the rocks. oh and you do have to love the chinese music on the soundtrack to the Echo vids...
  8. There's an FAQ section of the forum, and it knows.

    New Keita Vid

To me it was such a shame there was only 20 seconds of street. He's obviously a really talented rider but I've only ever seen one natural video that I haven't found boring and was a bit of Chris Akrigg. Riding natural is one thing, but filming it seems so pointless to me, it always looks the same. Now time to get abused by all the people who make natural vids I guess...

Now that I did not expect. Impressive! Although its so horrible if you forget and try to pedal...
  11. Yeah I've used it from time to time. It can be a bit unreliable, like you might have to try it twice to get it to work or something, but it does usually work. It's never crashed my computer as far as I can remember.
  12. Try this: http://www.imtoo.com/mpeg-encoder.html It converts many formats to many other formats. You can download the demo version for free, I think the only limitation is it won't do any file over 5 minutes but that should be alright for trials vids.
  13. Thick slimy grease in mine. Seems to do the business.
  14. I have one of those (on the front)... and I have to disagree. They are pretty light and don't wear out very fast BUT just not a lot of grip. I don't go in for mega soft compounds but even I find them just not grippy enough. When I go up to front wheel the tyre nearly always slips forwards, and if you ever try and turn a corner in the wet you WILL die. Sorry.
  15. That was most enjoyable! Not least because it downloaded in 19 seconds on university broadband Quality riding though. I can't deny I wanted to see him fall into the river off the stepping stones...
  16. I'm interested in Southampton on Sunday, I'm new here i.e. would benefit from finding out where's worth riding. Wouldn't be able to make it till something like 1pm though... I'll check back here and see if anything's up

I think riding should/can be creative. I find it much easier to do a bigger variety of things on my bike in a street environment, mainly because I'm not much good at/don't really practise natural. I still find it good to have simple goals like get from point A to B over obstacles on my bike, but without the more creative, inventive side of 'streety' riding I would get bored. And of course that includes more than just X-ups and manuals, praiseworthy though they are.
  18. Done I remember trying to get people to do surveys for geography coursework... man that sucked.
  19. lol That bit DOES annoy me I have to say.
  20. Cool, been wanting to see this for a long time. It is kind of unfair to put it on Google Video... but on the other hand I know I can't afford to spend precious money on DVDs (typical student finances) and it is quite old now. I doubt I'd ever get to watch it otherwise. As concerns the riding style, I agree with him that it's a bit crap when people do loads and loads of little hops just for balancing (not that I can ride without doing it). But he takes it too far in my opinion. The riding in this video is amazing - imaginitive and fluid and powerful, but the fact that he sticks to his little rule so rigidly makes it looks a bit strained sometimes. That said, it inspired me to me want to go out and ride, which is what a trials vid should do.
  21. This seems to be a thread showing you how to work it out: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=35813 The FAQ section of the forum knows all...
  22. So, why DOES this happen? I'd quite like to know myself. I don't understand why turning the TPA would cause it, when that should surely just push more oil through both sides of the brake equally.
  23. There are many, MANY ways to get up a wall. Make sure you ride with other trials riders, this helps a lot.
  24. It would have to be a colour that goes well with all your nifty blue parts I guess. Personally not much comes to my mind, but whatever colour you choose I would say make sure you do a photoshop version first...
  25. Yeah, sounds from what you originally said like you might need a booster. I have had that problem - the brake locks up but if you squeeze you can pull the lever back much further. When that happened to me it was because the frame was flexing outwards. Booster keeps the frame together = no more squidgy lever syndrome. If that's what the problem is anyway. p.s. I don't know nuttin about Julies, sorry.
