It would work for a while but eventually it would fail. The mounts have more metal in them so they can cope well with the force from the brake. The tubing on the other hand is alot thinner so would not have the strength you'd need. It might be worth taking it to a local engineer/metal worker type person and ask them if they could do anything for you. The worst they can do is say no after all
Could it be that there is some air in the hoses and the brakes need a good bleed. You could have the best pads in the world and it still wouldnt have much power.
mines turned into more of a mop so nothing seems to fit anymore, i just mucked about with the helmets padding insead, then gave up and got a new helmet
