I ride with some old ride bindings, and you cant really go wrong with them once you sepnd that kind of money, but they seriously tranform the whole feel of the bord over cheap bindings that you have to ratchet the hell out of to feel like your attached to the board. Also when you trying on shoes it might be a good idea to strap yourself onto a board, and see how much your heels lift - keep one foot flat and try and step out of the other boot. I bought a set of boots when I was starting off from snow and rock, and i found that i had a problem with heel lift. When I leaned into a toe side turn my heels would lift meaning that the board did not move with me, it was a right pain in the arse!

You know I think I might prefer those rims to black ones, either way tis the tits.
-
Best bet is to buy proper 4-bolt mounts and buy a new rim. Changing rims isn’t tricky; you don’t even need to take the spokes off the hub. If you REALLY want to keep the mavic rim, you might be able to run tensile offset mounts round the wrong way, so they are inset, but this wont be so much fixing a bodge but making a new one!

>Elliot jumping in on an interesting topic< So why does a hope have a reservoir while a maggie makes do without? whats the benefit of a reservoir?
-
I hate that kind of thing though, it really messes with my head!

link doesnt work
-
it probably would do the cranks no harm in itself, as the can will be a softer material than the cranks and so the can will deform not the cranks. However if it starts to have play again do the bodge over again with a new can. If you leave it with play then the cranks will get worse. If your careful and prepared to do the coke can bodge as soon as you notice the play again, then the cranks will last a while longer.
-
does that you got your cranks fixed then?

That looks coool. but any chance of a link to a map or some such? ta! edit: And Simpson, where abouts in Lewisham is that?

There is much debate about welding heat treated alu frames. have a search, but the danger is that welding heats a very localised part of the frame, ruining the heat treatment of that area. What some have found that cracks form next to the weld. This can be avoided by re-heat treating the frame, but this involves specialised equipment and knowledge to take the frame up to the right temperature then cool it down gradually.

its tricky to tell when there is only a little movement, but take it all apart and put it all back together again, correctly tightened. If it still moves then run through the checks below. Try and wiggle the cranks separately, with one hand holding the crank and one holding the frame. If they wiggle at 90 degrees to their direction of rotation and you feel a difference, where one crank seems to be moving and one not, then you have a rounded crank on the side that moves and you should try out Inur’s repair. Even if it is a little amount of movement it still might be worth trying to stop it worsening If you do the above and you find that both cranks move with each other, i.e. one goes in and one goes out, then you have a worn bb and it either needs tightening or replacing If you do the above and find that the cranks wiggle at 90 degrees from the direction of rotation, but they do independently, i.e. they both can move in or out separately from one another, then your shit out of luck and you have 2 rounded cranks! Try Inur’s repair on both. If your still having trouble, take off the drive side crank leaving the bash on and the lockring done up. Now try and rotate the bashring while holding the crank. If you have movement here, then try tightening the lockring. If tightening the lockring does not stop the movement then the splines between the bash and the crank have play in them and you need to try one of the fixings suggested above (stud & bearing or JB weld). Should keep you occupied for the rest of the afternoon! Good luck!

Yep, that tool tightens the lockring that hold the bashring to the crank. check to see if it is just one crank that wobbles, if both wobble in time with one another, then it is a problem with the bb not the cranks. Make sure that the crank bolts are tight and if they are then the problem is that you have rounded cranks. As above the coke can trick is not bad at all, inur's guide is the way to do it.

Not sure if they are v3s though.

Ditto, plus lighter and less likely to fail under the load of trial riding

not sure if I see the point of this topic at all. Seems like an oppurtunity for people to jump on their soap boxes and shout at each other. No one is going to pursuade anyone else here that drugs are good or bad, its just a bunch of people validating their own in-groups. However, If you are thinking about doing drugs, then first, get informed: www.talktoFRANK.com www.bluelight.nu Be aware of who your getting the gear off and think about how much you trust that person. Think about who you are doing them with and you much you trust them to look after you Be aware of quantity and strength of what your doing, START SMALL! Question whether its a good idea, if the downsides out-weigh the good, then stop. Finally ask yourself why your doing this, are you looking for fun or are you looking for an escape? Your mental state before you take something has a MASSIVE influence on its effects. Being happy around friends that you care about and trust compared vs, being unhappy around people you don't know. Drugs aren't bad. The way people use drugs really can be. Sorry for the heavy post, but I couldn't bear the idea of some kid reading this topic and just going for it. I wasnt sure about posting this as I dont want to be leading, if anyone wants me to remove this, then I will.

Ditto, I always use the guide below, just because it takes it step by step and uses photographs rather than obscure diagrams http://www.bikewebsite.com/build.htm

dont forget trailfinders and STA travel, cheapy travel places for the under 26s. I would look for you but I'm at work plus I'm lazy. -
you have a few options 1. take it to your local bike shop 2. buy a headset press and do it yourself 3. make a headset press from a long bolt, nut, some large washers and a apanner, and do it yourself cheaply (what I do) 4. Use a mallet, but with a plank of wood over the headset so you don't damage the headset I'd go for 3 as it is cheap, easy and unlikely to damage your headset. If you have a burning desire to know hoe to do it the pro way, go here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech/fix/?id=howfix_threadless Good luck dude!
