  1. I have a friend that is 5' 4", and he rides a stock. He rides a echo pure with a wheelbase that is 1085. He has no problem throwing that bike around. So like everyone else has said, try one of each and get the one you like the best. Although mod is much easier to learn on, if you are just getting into the sport.
  2. Hey guys, Well, I have been into Football/soccer for sometime now. I have been watching the world cup games and hearing what all theeuropeans are saying about the americans. You know putting us down, saying how we don't stand a chance at the titttle. I think we for once have a small fighting chance. Though I will agree with everyone , saying that the american people suck. I am really disappointed with how no one cares too much about this over here. This is a big world event and we as americans should get excited about this. I am starting to hate living here in the states, and want to move to a nother country. Sorry about the little rant. So who is keeping up with the games? I am posting this during the english game I know, but I am also watching it right now. MY television is in the same room as my computer. Maybe thats why no one is on the board right now? Anyways post back and let me know what you think. Thanks, Matt.
  3. Is the headset a sealed bearing style? Is it a retainer bearing style? If it is a retainer style, you may have one of the bearings upside down. If it is sealed, you may have a crack somewhere. IF you pull your headset apart and check your race, and it moves around on the fork, that could be the problem. Maybe the fork steer tube is slightly bent. Maybe your stem bolts are not tight enough? Try all of those things and let us know if any one of those worked. That will help narrow things down.
  4. For me it's easy to describe in two words, More challenging. Stock is much harder to flick or throw around, or bunnyhop, where mod is easier to learn on, and yes it's easier to throw rround. If you want more of a challenge, then I would say go with a stock . Though stock is much easier to get up on things that are higher. You also feel like your on a mountain bike and not a bmx bike. Another advantage I have found here in the states is, that the police don't harass you when your riding a bike that looks like a mountain bike; Unlike a mod that looks like a bmx, they think that you are destroying things. Matt.
  5. ^^^ I agree with what he said. THe first thing you should tell us, is what you already know how to do. FOr example, balance or trackstand, or get onto the rear wheel in anyway. THen at that point we can give you a little better direction to go at that point. Like if you can track stand, then we could say you should try hopping forward, and maybe start trying to get onto your rear wheel. All I am saying is that we need more information, to help you as best as we can. Matt.
  6. I have been hit by two cars in the past. THe first one they hit me head on, I don't remember too much because i blacked out for a moment. I was told afterwards that my head hit the hood of the car and then I bounced backwards about 3 feet or so in front of the car on the cement. The second one I was riding home from work, and was turning at an intersection. The car had a stop sign that they ran through, while I was turning. They only hit the front part of my bike, It folded my front wheel and turned my bars, and I fell to the ground. Needless to say I was not hurt, but I needed a new wheel. I know aboutt a dozen or so people that have been hit though. I know one guy that was hit by a dump truck, and was hospitalized in intencive care for 3 months. but he is fine now and riding his bike once again.
  7. Well guys thanks for all the comments. I definatly want to go with the middleburns if i can find them. I live in the states and I know that this is not the right place to ask this question, but where can I get them from? I thought I read somewhere that they stopped making them, was I wrong? I doalready have isis on my bike too, Thanks again, Matt.
  8. I would definatly run a higher tire pressure if you are riding urban, and a slightly lower pressure for natural. Also depending on what tire you are running, you may look into a new one with thicker sidewalls. I was having the same kind of problems, then I switched to a good DH tire with slightly thicker sidewalls then my previous tire, I haven't pinched yet. Knock on wood.
  9. Man, I remember those bikes, I used to want one for so long. I ended up with a monty mod bike back in the day. I had one of those old cromoly frame, triple crown fork, bmx style bars. Anyways its good to see some old skool riders getting back into the sport, I used to ride back in the mid 90's, then I got out of it and started just riding cross country. I just got back into trials about 3 or so years ago. Well anywayys if you are used to that old style frame, I would suggest a frame like a planet x or like everyone else is saying the echo pure. Alot of these bikes now a days have high bottom brackets, they're a litttle harder to get used too. I eventually switched to a higher bb frame after sometime. I am riding a BT 6.0 a md I would not trade it for anything. You should definatly keep that old bike as is, it's a classic.
  10. Well, if you can hop up and down the street all day long. I say you should try to find a small ledge or curb and try to go up while hopping. Just an idea to help you with becoming a better rider, progression.
  11. I was thinking of the middleburns, but I thought that they stopped making them. Maybe I was wrong. Hummmm thats really what I wanted. thanks. Any ideas where I can get them, over in the usa area.
  12. Hey guys, Well i have been thinking of buying some new cranks for my stock bike, and was trying to decide which way to go. I was thinking of buying the bonz cranks or maybe getting the zoo cnc ffw cranks and putting a track cog on them. The issue i am having is that I like the zoo cranks alot, but I am fearing that I will strip the freewheel threads. On the other hand I feel that the bonz cranks are a safer way to go, although I do like the smaller more compact style cranks. I guess what I am asking is which way you guys go, and what have you heard about either of these cranks, good or bad? ooh yeah I am looking for isis style. Also if you have any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks for all your input. Matt.
  13. Hey man, nice bike! My friend rides one of the old nodels, and he loves it. He says he won't ride anything else. Do you know how the ride quality differs from the old style to the new one?
  14. Well, like everyone else said. It would be nice to know or see where you are starting from with your bike. But it goes without saying, you should start with a good brake upgrade (if you don't have good ones already). Then I would upgrade the rear wheel or drivetrain, to give you better efficiency. I hope this helped you in some way or another.
  15. I have a Chris King hub, that has 72 engaugement points. I upgradeed up from a tnt ti hub, that had 20 or so points. What I noticed from the change was, that when preloading the pedals to make a move was much more solid feeling and i did't waste as much energy. Now whenever I get on a bike that dosn't have more than 52 points, it just feels like moosh. Look at it this way, when making small moves like in a comp, when making small kicks instead of having to move the pedals back really far to get to the next engaugement point, with more points lless movement you need to make with the pedals to get that small move forward. Therefor saving energy and being more presistant with your pedal kicks. I hope this helped somewhat.
  16. Hey man, I was thinking of doing the same thing. I have a black frame, i have also been tossing around some ideas of colors. I was partcial to white, but it seems like everyone is going that route. So now I have been looking into a pea green color, or a dirt brown. You should look into one of those colors.
