What's Your Worse Trials-related Bike Accident?

Just wondering what or how you've physically suffered in your trials history?

Myself, nothing serious, no broken bones. My injuries mostly consist of shin and knee bruises. A few wrist sprains and finger jamming but can't say I've had anything serious happen. With some of the things I've seen accomplished, they must of some stories to tell. What's yours?

Crazily, my worst ever injury whilst riding trials was two years ago. I done a 6ft drop gap to a bench, my savage vee brake slipped and I came crashing down on my back on the edge of the bench paralysing myself completely for 20 minutes.

Scariest experience in my life!!

Last Saturday I hit my nose on my stem trying a gap, I was looking at the landing spot when my front wheel hit a wall and all my weight came foward. I have a big hole in the side of my nose where a sharp edge fo the stem dug in, I could breathe out of it before a nurse glued it up. My most unusual injury at least.

Brake slip - Landed full force on the back of my head on the edge of a concrete wall (with no helmet) - Bleed for a good 6hrs before being glued.

Chain snap to front wheel to balls on the stem (legs in the air still) to snapped front skewer to dog crap on the pedal (was no crap about I swear)

Chain snap on sidehop meant knee SMACKING my stem and me not riding for a month.

Currently not riding due to ruptured ligaments in ankle (non trials related but hey).

Theres a few of mine, Trials is a dangerous sport

When I first started to learn drop gaps I went up to Birmingham to try the boat gap off the wall to the barge and I had heat sink yellows these were hard as rocks and they was shit and I just slipped. Hit the boat brake didn’t hold I went forwards bars twisted into ribs broke 2 ribs and I fell in the water.

Then had to climb out of their walk through brum to find a paramedic but just collapsed.

That's because you bleed your brakes in puddles and use spit as lubricant! <---- no lie

thats not fair, i got a bar to fill up my bottle for the bleed, and only spat on the caliper as a last resort, it sort of worked too so shut it.

Haven't had any bad ones yet, the (only) two that come to mind are falling off the front whilst doing my first ever drop gap (I proceeded to do it 5 mins later and have the title of the only person to fall off on it :$ ) and falling off the back when bunnyhopping a wall couple of inches over bar height. It was one of those ones when you should jump off the back but try to put your foot down <_< = landing straight to back.

Edit: Also backwheeling into manuals has a tendency to hurt a lot

lots of shin damage, sprained ankle and damage to some of the sinew bits (tendons/ligaments)...not too bad really, but bmxing...broken colar bone, broken arm and kneecap shattered into 3 large pieces and some other smaller splinters...all in 2 weeks! broke my collar bone on dirt (only a fracture) so i kept on riding...week and a bit later i hooked up my front wheel allyoop airing at the skatepark came down on my arm and knee...smashed my kneecap and compression fractured my arm!

that smarted a bit!

Hey Guys, (Y) New to the forum (Did you guess?) :D Thought I'd have a rant :)

Well... My worst injuries were....

(1) Stock Trials:- Riding along a sea wall with a little 45 degree flower bed in the corner, went to put my front wheel onto the 1 brick wide wall of the flower bed that was slightly lower, and missed it, (unexpectedly ofcourse) Wheel went right down to the main floor (Red Arrow in image) I hit my head on the 45 degree part of the wall (Yellow Arrow in image)...(God knows what would of happened if it was a right angle) I got up and felt the back of my head where I thought I'd hit it. I looked up and my mate who was with me, He said "Oh crap man, your eyebrow!" My left eyebrow was massively swollen. Luckily I didn't fracture anything, but I had a nice shiner for over a week. People were asking if I had got beaten up, I said "Yea I did... By a wall":D When pinched, my left eyebrow is twice as thick as my right one :) Not noticable in general though....

Oh, I do 3D modelling too, This is a quick mock up of the scene so you can picture it :)

(2) 20" BMX:- Whilst standing up and pedaling down a gentle hill at about 15-20Mph, my chain came off, my left foot slipped off the pedal, and went under the rear wheel, I went down to the left, straight onto the pavement, onto my elbow.....:S I got up in immence pain, bent my arm, and see a void and the bone..... The void then filled with blood >_< It was as painful as the eyebrow one, maybe more.. I now have a dark scar 1" x 1/2" on my left elbow..

No broken bones so far (Touch Wood)(Fingers Crossed)....

I've had plenty of Shin-Pedel Scrapes.. I think they're the main signature of bike trials. :D Plenty of dead knees (The funny bone part) :)

And blisters on my hands.. Well I have at the moment because I've only just started riding again after a year out (New Bike :P w00t... I get really bad calluses on my hands too, but thats expected doing trials:-

Regards,

Rob.
