Crankbrothers 5050xx

I got given the Crankbrothers 5050xx pedals (578g) for my chirstmas present :santa:, I opened them up all those months ago and i was like wow.........they are very nice, infact stunning! As soon as possible i took them straight to my bike with my 15mm spanner and whipped the old DMR V8's (528g) off and soon had these brand spanking new pedals on in no time.

First of all I was very impressed at how Crankbrothers have presented it in the box, from this you immediatly think there is something rather special inside. The box consisted of 3 trays, the top tray had the right pedal in, the middle had the left pedal in and the bottom try had spare pink coloured plates and a little screw pot of 36 x 5mm extra pins. The pedals come fitted with 18 x 3mm pins already fitted in both pedals but still having the capacity of holding another 18pins in each pedal. Me my Dad and my Grandad were all admiring the works of art, looking at how well they have been manufactured and finished of with no manufacturing marks anywhere to be seen. The clever interchangable pink plates were a bonus feature if you scratch them up or just like the colour pink.:)

I battled with my Dad and Grandad who wouldn't let go of them drooling all over them  I then fitted the pedals straight away and went out for a quick test ride. I was very impressed with how smooth and elegant they looked on the bike contrasting well with the gold and black with my gold bashring and black cranks.

After a good few months worth of riding i thought it would be neccessary to do a review of them considering they have been worn in and spinning superbly. They have put up will a few bashes very well and had no problems with them what so ever.

Although one minor problem if you can call it a problem was that using the pedals with just the original 3mm pins, is that I found my shoes kept slipping off them I found this out within the first week or two of using them on my bike. To solve this fitted all of the extra 36 x 5mm pins supplied to both pedals, I would recommend doing this before fitting the pedals so they are new and haven't got any dirt or grit in the threads. (Y)

I haven't managed to rip any of the pins out and none of them have come loose. I have noticed on the Crankbrothers website they do the little grub screws that are 8mm in length these will give you a hell of a good grip if you wanted anymore. There are many different colour options that you can view on the colour mixer page on their website if you are fussy and want a good colour combination like me.:)

I bought the pedals for £59.99, if you don't mind spending that little bit extra cash and going for something really nice, I would highly recommend these pedals for performance, quality and style. Also not forgetting for those weight freaks out there its another 50grams more than the good old DMR V8's but that extra weight is totally worth it for grip etc.

Right i think I have said enough now, and you should all go out there and buy these beauty's (Y)

They deffinatly look the sh*t. Absolutely loving the colours available. Have you had to take them apart and give them a service yet? How easy is this to do? What shop did u get them from, and please don't say Santa's work shop! :P

I bought them off ebay this seller I haven't had to do anything to them apart from the 5mm pins I have put on, other than that they have been running smoothly since ive got them, crankbrothers 5050x are not sealed but the 5050xx are sealed the sealed ones cost a little bit more but the person has both types, you can also get them from wiggle (Y)

Got my Club Roost 2D pedals at the bike show like 5 years ago.....£60 retail (I think)but I paid £25....best set of pedals Ive ever had. Huuuuuuge amount of grip, never let me down and the damn things still spin smoothly without every being stripped or serviced!!!

Cant ask for more than that to be honest...though they do shred your shins!

Always like those Crank Bros pedals since saw them last year while workin at Evans....never tried a pair though but they seem 2 have bags of potential! Pretty heavy though but gonna last for years I'd bet!

Nice job and sweet review :)
