Onza Zoot Review

Well. im new to the forum, ive been looking on the forum for quite some time now and ive seen people are very curious and show alot of interest in the onza zoot, well ive had one for a few months and thought i mayaswell write a review to answer everyones questions.

Ill start from the begginning, first i bought it from tartybikes and they were great, very fast getting it to me and no messing around (i bought the full build) well i ripped it out the box built it up and first impressions were i didnt like it it just felt really weird with the super low and short stem with me coming from a stock with a resonably high bar and stem setup.

Good point about the frame it doesnt really flex much, and feels very stiff, erm the length of it is strange it doesnt feel short or long, its perfect, after a few hours it grew on me big time, really started to like it the things i found easier were sidehops inparticular could just put more power into them then on a stock,, front taps felts less restrictive probably because i could throw the bike around more its weird because you have to hit your front wheel in a different position to stock but when you get the hang of it you shoot up, just all the moves in general progressed alot faster then when i was on my stock.

After the first few weeks i decided to buy a hope mono trial disk for the front (decided on 160 rotor with the wheels only being 24") some koxx bloxx for the rear and a echo hifi stem (the highest rise version) as soon as the stem was fitted the bike instantly felt lush, everything is so much easier especially front hooks. and rolling gaps, usually it takes a while to adjust to a big change like stem but i could do all my moves bigger and it felt much more comfortable like a totally different bike, the only thing on this bike i felt harder was gapping to front wheel, the bike doesnt really feel like it wants to go over the front but with some practise its pretty easy, next thing on my list to upgrade are the bars and cranks.

The spec is really amazing though for the price, it really is a great bike and the 24" trialsy style frame was a great idea, the only things i had trouble with was, i threaded one of the brake mounts in my first night (my own fault  ) and the onza threaded steerer tube is a good idea but the topcap should be a little better :P . the frame itself is strong, ive put it through alot of stress and some big moves and its fine, no dents or anything :) really happy with the frame, ill get some pics so you can see how it looks later and if anyone has any questions about it just ask. also i should have a video out soon so you can see it being ridden ^_^

Oh and another thing. thought id add, when you gap the backend really flicks out, you can see it in this link Here. download the "Zoot Crash."

ahh you little bitch, beat me to it!

i was gonna write up a review but this guy has pretty much said everything :)

as standard, they need a higher set of bars/higher rise stem and perhaps a slightly longer stem too-i found a 90mmx15 to be perfect mixed with 2.5 rise double walls :) and as many stackeres as i could fit!

i changed the brakes, due to personal preference, im running a rear v and a front mono trial-both work fooking amazingly :) really impressed with the monotrial-every one ive used til now has felt wank-but i did have the fork mounts faced and i did set up the brake properly, which of course makes alot of difference ;) for most the standard maggies will suffice, perhaps some better pads and a of course grinds will make them work well enough

next thing i did was change the inner tubes from the hefty dh things to standards-lost alot of rolling weight :) and i also changed the front tyre to a moto digger as i found the maxxis to be a bit sluggish and overkill-handy spare for when the rear wears out

i also rebuilt the rear wheel onto a pro 2 hub, i did ride the onza hub for a night and was really impressed with it, its really solid and positive on egagement-i have given it to my friend for his new 24inch planet x i have just built him, so we can see how long they last :) the pro 2 is awesome though.....uber chuffed

the front hub is also of good quality, its got a very small build to it and looks weak, but time will tell on the longetivity of it-im guessing the bearings wont last long as they are sooooo small on the non disc side

the rims are also very good, as we know reggie/ronnies are good rims on both mod and stock-same goes for on 24 :) they are also 32h just incase you want to know (after market versions only come in 36h)

i dumped the gearing setup, pirely cos i prefer singlespeed, its worth noting that the supplied cassette doesnt really have an ideal ratio, i found on 24 that 22:17/16 is best, but the cassette only has 22:15/18-small detail but annoying never the less, so keep that in mind

the cranks-cheap but seem good enough-i changed them immediately for some middleburns, but im running them on my base, so i will see how long thbey last, so far they seem fine, and havent come loose :)

the forks are pretty nice, as said, the topcap looks a bit shit, but im not fussed, they feel solid, but im tempted to swap them over with my old fattys-cos they are stiffer

not much else left to say really, overall as standard they are a bargain, change the tubes, front tyre, rear pads, get a new rear sprocket, a decent chain, and some higher bars/stem and you have a mighty fine bike for feck all money

i bloody love mine now :)

HAHA, he wasnt all the chuffed with it when he first had it. If he was he wasnt showing it. But i like it, short whippy and reasonably light. (im a wieght weeny).

It looks like a beast to be honest.

One thing paul didnt mention was the fact that he doesnt like the paint job....if he did then i cant read.

well on the first ride i had: the loudest brake ever that sounded gayer than gay, my monotrial barely worked cos it was new, my gearing was shit cos of that cassette making things funkin hard and that front tyre was just so fecking hefty an nasty upfront it made things feel horrible

now those little things are sorted, its fooking lush-been faffing with bar angles cos it makes a huge difference :) and yeah personally i think the zoot has the shittest colour scheme ever so its getting resprayed once i get a suitable rainy day :) its weird i thought id hate no seat, but its a refreshing change from twatting my foot on my bases seat everytime i do stuff like 360 tyre taps :)

and the bike weighs just over 25lbs :) so its on par with my old base (Y) and my riding is improving lots apparently, go 24 (Y)

Bad thing is, hes not joking, since he got his zoot. He has been riding alot more, and alot better. I always thought he was good, but not that good :P and paul...i done 69" flat....nearly 6foot gap!!! w0000p!
