CBProductions
Ok today I decided to rebled my front brake and ho hum there I was undoing the bolts , came to push the plunger down on the syringe and nothing , I had undone my rear bolts for bleeding :$ doh.So I have had to rebled both and I nearly went through my rim today with the angle grinder What have been your worst mistakes while attempting mechanics ?? JT!
Bought some forks, put them on all ok etc etc. Then realised they the brake mounts were 2" higher than the rim.

Its not going well today , forgot to put chain on when inserting rear wheel Keep them coming people
Onza Kieron
another mistake by me. Its not going well today , forgot to put chain on when inserting rear wheel Keep them coming people Yeh that's annoying, another is pumping the tyre up, then trying to fit it, having to let it down, fit it then pump up again.. Doing bolts and nuts up too tight and damaging threads is also so annoying. I don't like this thread. It gets me angry thinking...

munkee
Fitting chain upside down i.e. kmc, khe. f**ks me off that does...Fitting tyres with tread wrong way.. doesnt change owt just annoys me.Bleeding brake then realised i forgot to undo the tpa.Always forgetting you turn a bb the opposite way to normal to take it out. Slipping whenever undoing anything and always smacking my hand in to frame, floor, spokes, disc, casette... the list goes on.Putting as much force as i have in to undoing a bolt.. then it suddenly goes and i fall over + see above happens.Fixing a puncture, fitting tyre back on and fitting all back to bike.. blowing tyre up and theres another puncture i missed. RicH_87
This one time I picked a 4mm allen key up instead of a 5mm allen key.HAHAHAHA! oh my god, your comments always crack me up.------ as for my fixing retardedness, i guess the worst is when i tryed to lever my tyre back on and trapped my innertube against the rim making another puncture, after having just fixed one. i hate that.i also tryed to undo an ACS i had locktited on, and the allen key slipped outta the little hole resulting in me impaling my finger on one of the teeth, to the bone. Token
mmm why dont they make bolts round in the first place?then nobody would have to problem of rounding them off anymore than they have too! yoyoyo
Taking out a link out of a chain and only realising when i went to put it back together that i had lost it. Had to buy a new chain.
Dan6061
Bleeding brake then realised i forgot to undo the tpa. Spot on. I nearly always end up doing that. At work once, i put a 26" tube in a 24" wheel for a repair while the customer was waiting. Took me ages, the tyre was so fooking awkward! And one of the tyre levers catapulted itself into my chest. So I left the tube in the wheel. Was fine.
trials_pimp
Was rebuilding an Engine at work.I had used Gaffa tape to hold the Valves in while I put the seals and spings on.Rebuilt the rest of the engine, only to find I had left the gaffa tape over the ends of the valves........That was a doozy

Greetings
Built up a wheel and then realized that the spokes were in the wrong holes (offset holes on the rim, not inline).

ManxTrialSpaz
Hmm, my worst Mechanical Monkey Mistake was on friday. Kris ground my rear rim (CRMs + Medium grind = orgasm -ish) and when we were putting the chain onto the freewheel it got stuck in the bashplate, it was solid as well. The wheel was as far forwards as possible but the chain was stuck and was as rigid as Hitler. Hmmm. Only one solution. I kicked the on the pedal. The chain went on and rode nicely. Brake was yummy. Half an hour later the freewheel starts making grinding noises and partially locking whilst rolling. On closer inspection, as well as f*cking up the freewheel (big style), I have also stripped the threads on my bb.So on Tuesday, Bikestyle are getting a ring and I'm going to see whether Onza will only replace my T-Pro or if I can get my hands on some money instead. (Which I probably won't ) Ah well, it'll be worth a try, it would go towards an Aorta Edited April 16, 2006 by ManxTrialSpaz
Krisboats
Mine is definately attaching a chain (the proper way, not with a split link) and upon going to put it around my chainring i realised that i had joined the chain with one side the wrong way round so i had to undo it and put it straight again then rejoin it.
