MadManMike
Exactly. I personally don't believe in any religions, in fact I'd go as far as to say it's ridiculous - that doesn't mean I have anything against those that do go to Church or whatever. Rich J
I believe in something quite what I cant put my finger on but if someone believes in what they read in the bible to me thats fair enough. If someone believes whats in the bible can be the only truth however thats where I have a problem. Im assuming this thread is about those videos dave. She was a tit.... F-Stop Junkie
Yep, that group are extremists in the worst sense. I doubt very much they are representative of 99.999999999% of the Christian population.I saw a programme once - and I don't think it was Theroux - about a Jesus camp for kids. It had them ministering, supposedly speaking in tongues, all sorts. At one point one of the adult leaders came out with something like "This is why abortion is wrong, and now go and tell everyone." There was no debate, no 'This is what the bible says, what do you think?' It was pretty much brainwashing young children. For the record I have no issue with Christianity - having been baptised before I became morally bankrupt - but it's easy for us to lump all Christians in with the WI, raising funds for the church roof and harvest festival collections, when there are some really messed up groups crusading personal opinions and agendas under a generally socially accepted banner. There's no excuse, IMHO of course, for what these people do, but if you have a belief which you held absolutely, wouldn't you hold it despite what other non-believers may say? It's flippant to say, but take Canon Vs Nikon in the camera world. If you're a Nikon user, you have your justification for following that path. If someone tries to argue for Canon, you'll take a contrary view based on your belief, and it's only when you no longer believe you're taking the best option, you convert. Matthew62
You can't take anything from that extreme religious group. I don't think really they can even be called Christians as they believe their own teachings and ways of lives. Ignore them, dont regard them as christian/religious/etc, they're just a group of veyr hateful, horrible people. They are in no ways indicative of the religious population. Sure religion leads to a lot of war and fighting but so do manyh things...money, politics etc. A true hardcore Christian will not have agressive thoughts towards other human beings, they just believe in their religion for their own reasons and you will find no other reaosn than ''faith''. For those people it is enough, its what keeps them going - hard facts will not deter them, i assure you, you wouldn't make them waver for 1 second. Moaning on at someone about 'hard facts' wont achieve shit - its ignorant and selfish, a lot like how the extrmist group you mentioned act.Arguments and fighitng comes from a lack of understanding of one anothers beliefs. You are adding to that by wanting an argument/talk - you're being as narrow minded as the people that anger you. As long as no ones views hurt or affect anyone else, then its all good. unfortunetly extremeist wil always make the most press and grab the most attention but they are not representitive of their chosen religion or its beliefs - they just make a good story and unfortunetly hurt people along the way. N.Wood
Christianity is such a 'watertight*' theory that its hard to argue with it.* thats not me saying its completely true, what I am saying is that Christianity boils down to faith in God. So the proof you need is your faith in God. Because thats your 'proof', you can't show it to anyone else like you could a picture, or anything else. Its a completely self contained thing. Other 'proof' comes in the form of the world around us, many non-hardcore-ists believe in evolution, but they say its part of God's plan. Apparently it also says in the bible there will be an increase of knowlege in the last days. Well, yeah, thats cos people learn more stuff as time goes on. Again, more 'proof' for them. I can't explain where the dust and gas came from that (I believe) built our Earth and universe, their explaination is that God put it there. I also don't have an explaination for why we're here, what makes us different to other animals (knowing we exist, showing behaviour thats not condusive to survival etc) and stuff like that. Thats where the watertight thing comes around, because they say God can do anything, their argument to anything is 'well, God can do whatever he wants/he put it there' etc. I find it hard to believe in something that I can't see or touch, but I'm not 100% denying theres something 'else' out there, just won't believe until someone shows it to me.God forum - Dave I think thats the kinda crew you're on about? EDIT: Theres even someone from Chester! Go visit them!
MadManMike
"I watched it on sky this morning, I think it will take a lot more than this for Christians to give up their faith, it's a joke and an insult to peoples intelligence the trouble is it's mostly the intelligent that believe this"Wahahaha, am I reading that right?
