Promoting Trials In A 3rd World Country

An introduction might be in order...

Hello, I'm Patrick from the Philippines. I ride stock and I consider myself a beginner. Although its almost 2 years since I started it is quite hard to learn at first since most of the skills I have figured out on my own and no criticisms were available.

I come from a country where you couldn't buy trials parts to save your life. Well thats a little bit of an exaggeration. Stock frames are impossible to buy and there are a few mod frames left in bike shops. Mountain bike parts are the best substitute to trials specific parts, HS33's can only be bought second hand, there is only one, yes, one new HS33 on sale in the entire country that we know of and it cost more expensive than a Dengura. The best alternative for us is always buy abroad.

There are less than 20 people who ride trials in the entire country that I know of (past and present). Some live thousands of kilometers across different islands (the Philippines is made up of more than 7,100 islands). I know them since I made an effort to reach out and get to know them including those who introduced trials in our country. I make way for the few of us correspond via text, internet and sometimes ride together.

There is a legitimate international trials comp here every 2 years and a minor comp available only to 9 of us since every now and then. It's like a few hours travel by plane and quite financially difficult so many of us couldn't go there.

My dilemma...

I really want to promote bike trials in the Philippines.

I have influenced probably 4 people directly or partly into learning trials. I have organized rides that turned into a kind of demo in a public park at least every month.

From the point of view of you guys, coming from a country with plenty of trials riders, what do you guys think we should do to promote the sport more.

Any suggestion is well appreciated.

:o You need validating.

What you are doing now seems to be good advertising for the sport, just ride in public, get talking to people and try to get them into the sport (Y)

When you are validated, post this in Full Members and i'm sure many more people will give you ideas, like the think bikes lot and many others.

Take care,

Matt

hi Matt thanks for the response, I think I got validated already (thank you). I will try to post it tomorrow since its quite late here right now.

Do you think I could just quote it there in a new thread or can I request it to be moved by a mod?

Yeah you can ask it to be moved, or just copy and paste it into a new thread (Y)
