Frame Weld...

I recently managed to crack my frame just next to the rear 4 bolts, which made my brake rubbish.

I had my frame welded the other day and am just curious as to how long it is gonna last for?

I've herd the weld is stronger than it was before, but it's not looking that way!

Anyone able to help?

Depends how good the weld/welder is?

Only time will tell...

I agree- in theory it should work out, but welding can create new stresses in the metal. I had an XTP frame that I cracked the down tube on, good size crack too. Welded it up, rode for an hour and the weld held fine, although a new crack developed just to the side of the weld. Oh well...

You should drill out the edges of the cracks to stop them from spreading...

Depends on the frame and quality of the weld. If its a aliminium frame and a production frame like deng ones then it will have been heat treated so unless you get your frame reheat treated then it won't last long. If its steel then it should be fine.

That's about the best post you've ever made on here, apart from your spelling :P

generally re-welding aluminium softens it up again, as said above you might find a crack will develop near the old one. The weld itself is strong, wether or not it will work depends on the bond between the weld and the material your using, and how much heat is disapated in the surrounding area, as that is what reverses the heat treatment.

Just weld the whole frame over again that way theres no weak point.

but on a seriouse not the weld will not crack again if its a good weld but another part of the frame may start to crack also get it heat treated if posible if not i'd advisea new frame.
