Hendrix
1980's Claud Butler Trails Bike TransformationIt's old, big and bulks, so I thought, how hard can it be...I'll be cutting off the main pillar in about a week, to then remove the seat post that goes into the body. After that I'll be removing the basic post, and changing it with a bent one that'll blend onto the chasy. Get a new crank, because that one's blatently dead! New Handle Bar, grips. And finaly, change it to a single speed. Alot of work, but it will get done.. honest I'll keep you updated on my work, in this thread. future orange 660
it will just end up stupidly short and heavy
Hendrix
Just a standard trials bike ... I need to get my hacksaw out That's what I'm using to cut, then getting some slots to go intisde the body work to make sure you cant cut yourself And it wont be heavy, at all. Just remember, Claud Butler from the 80's were hand built, and are extremely light Edited February 1, 2007 by Hendrixmaster
sapu
find yourself a decent frame with oversized steerer tube and good clerance for the tire..... my advice buy a trials frame...i have experence with cutting frames and its hard to make a good one....u end up with a heavy frame ,low bb rise, long cs,short wb...if u shorten the cs the wb becomes even shorter....if u rise the bb,the head angle is bad....and the list goes on..... Hendrix
The tripple clanger has now been removed. The brakes are aligned, and are awaiting new grips, due to these ones being naff. I'll get them off a bike from the tip.I installed a barely used front tyre that I found at the tip. No wear.I've marked out where I'm cutting the stem off. Should be done some time next week.Pictures Soon

Hendrix
The handlebar that will be going on has arrived, straight off the doner bike (Free Bike)it will no longer be a Pain to handle... but a marvel! New Brake Levers also came with the bike, so they will be "COMPLETELY" changed, no more rot for me.I'm keeping the gears on, but as of this moment, no control for them, so it's an un-official single speed.HACKSAW on Sunday Evening, so I will upload pictures then......FINALYThe front brakes are getting new pads, off the doner bike again.Things are starting to take shape!!!
